MODEL 5031 SERIES : Gel Cell Battery

General Description

The Model 5031-XX Gel Cell Battery is a sealed lead-acid type battery that allows safe operation in any position. The battery capacity (C) is based on the operational requirements of the equipment. The standard HydroLynx batteries' specifications are given here; however, batteries with up to 100 Ampere Hours (AH) can be supplied for non-standard power requirements.

Designed for Remote Telemetry Systems

HydroLynx gel cell batteries are selected specifically for compatibility with ALERT and ALERT2 flood warning stations, weather stations, and other remote environmental monitoring equipment. The sealed construction eliminates the need for periodic electrolyte maintenance, making these batteries ideal for unattended installations in remote locations where regular servicing is impractical.

The batteries operate reliably across a wide temperature range from -76°F to +140°F (-60°C to +60°C), supporting year-round deployment in extreme climates. Each battery is rated for approximately 500 charge-discharge cycles, providing years of service when paired with a HydroLynx solar panel (Model 5033 Series) and battery charger (Model 5030).

Selecting the Right Capacity

Battery capacity should be sized based on the station's total current draw, the expected duration between solar charging periods, and the local climate. For a standard ALERT2 rain gauge station with a single radio, the 7 AH Model 5031-7 provides adequate capacity for most locations. Weather stations with multiple sensors and higher duty-cycle radios typically require the 18 AH Model 5031-18 or 22 AH Model 5031-22. Repeater stations and sites with limited solar exposure should use larger capacity batteries to ensure reliable operation during extended cloudy periods.
