MODEL 5391/A2 - ALERT2 Packaged Water Quality Station
General Description
The HydroLynx 5391/A2 Packaged Water Quality Station combines the effectiveness of the ALERT2 Self-Reporting Weather Station with the utility of the 50386 transmitter. The Water Quality sensors used in this package are designed to employ up to six probes of various types. These probes include temperature, conductivity, pH, dissolved oxygen and turbidity; as well as a variety of element-specific probes. The Water Quality sensor connects to the 50386 Data Transmitter through the SDI-12 port which allows different Water Quality sensor configurations to have a standard input interface. Consult with a HydroLynx sales person to configure this package to your specifications.
Applications
The Model 5391/A2 is deployed for continuous, real-time water quality monitoring at locations including municipal wastewater discharge points, stormwater outfalls, drinking water source intakes, lakes and reservoirs, aquaculture facilities, and post-wildfire watershed monitoring sites. The station provides automated data collection that supports environmental compliance reporting, NPDES permit monitoring, and early detection of contamination events.
SDI-12 Sensor Flexibility
The SDI-12 (Serial Digital Interface at 1200 baud) interface is the industry standard for connecting environmental sensors to data loggers and transmitters. Because the Model 5391/A2 uses SDI-12, agencies can select water quality probes from any SDI-12-compatible sensor manufacturer — you are not locked into a proprietary sensor ecosystem. This flexibility allows you to choose the best sensors for your specific monitoring parameters, accuracy requirements, and budget.
Data Transmission and Communication
The 50386 transmitter at the heart of the station supports multiple communication pathways including ALERT2 radio, SCADA radio, telephone or cellular modems, and GOES satellite. On-site data processing allows the transmitter to calculate and transmit averages, maximums, minimums, and other computed values rather than raw readings — reducing radio channel congestion and delivering analysis-ready data to the base station. The station is solar-powered and designed for years of continuous, unattended operation.
